Filters of course the same as Wix or elsewhere - on the outside. Fits perfectly. Lubricated it with fresh ATF and it ran in smoothly into the gearbox. A tip: use your finger to check if the oil seal is in good condition, it should be fine. If so, don't even think for a second that you want to replace it. Check out the new filter that came with the filter and quickly throw it in the trash. If you've read one of those Chilton repair manuals where removing the old gasket is as easy as if it were a simple traditional gasket or o-ring, forget that passage. On another car but with the same main gearbox I tried to remove the gasket. This therefore had to be removed as you would damage the seal. So that was a test. I even asked the transmission mechanic at the local dealership about it; He said they never remove that seal unless absolutely necessary. The gasket is the best I have ever used for the installation. It may not be unique to ATP, but the small "third hand" finger holes are awesome. I stuck three screws a few turns into the gasket, which stayed in place. This was very helpful as my application required me to tilt the pan and slide a corner in at an angle due to the shift cable mount. It worked like a charm with no effort.
