If you're just standing on the ground, keep both hands handy—one to hold the sandwich mix and the other to press buttons, unnecessary. Mark the wall and deal with "regular" studs that only go vertically, then this is the product for you. Expensive but worthy. However, if you're standing on a ladder trying to find the top beam (not knowing which way it's going) and need to mark the middle of the tree, I would suggest that you spend a much smaller chunk of your money and buy one simple stud finder type led display. I'll be the first to say that a new tool takes time to get used to, so after only using this thing a few times - with very disappointing results - I realize I might need a lot more "practice " need. But come on, do you need to master the spike finder?
