Review on πŸ” Purolator L14610 Premium Spin-On Oil Filter for Optimal Engine Protection by Keith Stuckey

WHY this may not work for you

I've found rave reviews for this filter on various websites, especially for motorcycles. Blah blah, Purolator says their filters are "designed for cars, not bikes". Whatever that means. I also use car oils in motorcycles, ooh! Before I bought it I read the negative reviews here and some said that this filter is not suitable for their cars but no one gave details. The reason it might not work is that the threaded part is too close to the edge. Therefore, when you try to tighten the filter, it will hit the stud before the gasket is sufficiently compressed. Because of this, you may be able to fit this filter, but it will then leak in use as it is not screwed on tight enough to compress the gasket. In my photos I added arrows to show the intersections. It didn't work on the 2010 Triumph Street Triple. I had to rush to Walmart for another filter. Lo and behold, many of the "Auto" filters also had a convex interior so the threads were closer to the lip of the filter than the HiFlo I originally had or the Fram PH6017 I had. In that regard, Mobil1 and Supertech looked like this Purolator. The difference is small but significant. By placing a flat bar on the sealing surface of the filter and then measuring the distance to the start of the threads I got: Purolator: 7.4mm HiFlo: 10mm is used on motorcycles. I have a Purolator and am hoping to use it on my Honda which is currently running Mobil1. But I'm frustrated that no one has clarified these important size differences. I hope this review helps educate people.
