That's exactly what I needed it for. It has good measurements in tricky spots where the tape measure just didn't work. It's pretty easy to use, but sometimes finding the right angle can be tricky. If something is stopping the light in a narrow spot, the measurement is simply the distance to what's blocking it, not the entire space being measured. For example, I tried to determine the distance from the top of the cabinet to the floor where the fridge interfered with using the tape measure correctly. It took several attempts before the laser beam bounced off the ground and accidentally hit the countertop instead. But once that happened, the measurement I got from this exercise was way better than what I could get with the tape measure. It also helped to get the size of the room to estimate how much paint I would need to buy. So as a carpenter I didn't use it for critical measurements, but it was very useful for my household needs.
