I went ahead and bought a kit that comes with a Raspberry Pi and a micro SD card. This can be a problem for some and you should consider buying your own Pi and micro SD depending on your skills and the type of project you want. The full kit comes with a Raspberry Pi 4B (2GB RAM) and an 8GB Micro SD card, and the full Raspberry Pi OS complained when I tried to install it. The Lite version (no GUI or additional apps) installs easily, but you'll need to be familiar with Linux to set up the Wi-Fi network and reset the password on the Pi. I work in IT as a Linux admin so this wasn't a problem for me and the sample code works.
