I replaced old 1978 square downlights during a basement renovation. They had 60w compact fluorescent bulbs which gave off enough light after warming up but I was looking for something brighter. They are much brighter and cover a larger area. This way, instead of multiple concentrated areas of light under each fixture, I get a nice, even light that illuminates the entire area. It made a huge difference and installation was easy. I simply cut the wires off the old ceramic fittings and connected the new ones with wire nuts. The 8" frame fits perfectly in my existing square mount and the clips hold it securely. The only reason I didn't give them a full 5 star rating is that out of the 5 bulbs I installed, 1 bulb has a delay of about 1 second. when I flip the switch. The rest are on immediately. Everything is connected the same, only 1 slow start. Would definitely buy again, in fact I'm considering replacing the fluorescent lights in the unfinished part of the basement with larger versions. of these.
