Review on Cuisinart DGB 900BC Grind Automatic Coffeemakers by Drake Burroughs

Changed thermal jug causing coffee to get cold

After 5 years of owning a Cusinart Grind & Brew coffee maker with thermal jug, the basket door stopped closing. I was very happy to find the DGB-900BC. My previous model required 5 minutes of cleaning every day and between pots when I had guests. With this new grinder version, the grinder only needs to be cleaned every 7-10 uses (the basket still needs to be cleaned after each use, but is easy to clean). Upon arrival, I noticed that the 12-cup thermos was a lot lighter than my previous 10-cup thermos - odd, but I wasn't overly concerned. I have read the instructions that recommend heating the thermal pot with hot water before brewing. This beats the automatic timer and I never had a problem with my previous machine/pot so I tried it the first day without preheating the pot. I don't like coffee that's so hot it burns my mouth, but it was barely warm. Day 2 I tried not setting the timer and preheating/heating the pot - it made a small difference but my coffee was still COLD for 5 minutes. I read some reviews about the coffee not being warm but found them overly critical. Boy was I wrong! I contacted Cuisinart customer service who said they took the glass out of the thermopot because I bought my Original Grind and Brew with thermopot 5 years ago (I didn't realize there was glass in it). I asked if I could buy a glass thermal pot and she said there wasn't one for this machine. "Unfortunately, coffee cools down when it hits cold metal," she told me. She offered to sell me another thermal cooker—the one that "cools the coffee”—for $49, but I would have to pay shipping. No thank you. I was very disappointed with their customer service. All my small kitchen appliances are Cuisinart and I've never had any problems. Pros: The car itself is great. The basket door and basket are much stronger than the previous model; The coffee grinder is great, cleaning is easy, it looks great aesthetically and the coffee tastes good. ) Coffee pot. It has an adjustable shut off function so you can program it to keep the pot hot for 0-4 hours. UPDATE: I received the DGB-700 (glass tub version) and have been using it for a few weeks. Now I have hot coffee and the adjustable automatic switch-off is great. My only complaint is that he uses a lot of beans. However, I love strong coffee and have started using the strong setting. Now I'm on the Mild setting and I'm still getting good strong coffee. The DGB-700 deserves 4 or 5 stars. I wish I could say the same about the thermal version.
