The entire arm flexes and is forced to move when the locking knob is tightened. You have to tighten the knob before the lever actually engages, and half the time you can see the indicator dial drifting for about 5 seconds afterwards. It usually drifts from 0.003 to 0.005. I wouldn't even recommend it for amateurs, let alone professionals.
