Terrible support for Netgear products

I've had this router for a year now. I only installed it to have problems with our iPhones. Android devices worked flawlessly. I assumed I had a cable problem and ended up with a Motorola surf modem. 8 months later my surfboard started having problems and my friend installed the C6300 and it worked flawlessly. I dug mine and reinstalled but encountered the same issues as before. I called the cable company to make sure there were no problems. They confirmed everything was fine and said Netgear should help me with the settings. I called tech support and they wanted to charge me for support for ANY product older than 30 days. I promise you I will never buy another Netgear product in my life. UPDATE 3/22/18 Our old surfboard was starting to get really slow so we decided to take it apart and try again. We got it working without too much trouble, but found the speed to be very slow on the 2.4GHz wireless network, around 25 downloads and 3-4 downloads. 5G was best with 125 downloads and 7-9 downloads. The only odd thing is that when testing the speeds from a wired laptop, the speeds were less than 10 and 2. I contacted Cableone tech support and they confirmed that the firmware on my modem was out of date, for example 8 updates the old ones. I went online to Netgear to download the latest version but found that no one but the cable provider could send an update for your Netgear products. Wasted 2 hours on the phone so I'm buying another Motorola product now, but I'll confirm I can upgrade before I buy.
