This well designed fan is a really good product. (My second Delta exhaust fan). They considered the installation process for retrofitting in an existing house. They designed it so you don't have to climb the attic or install it in place. There's a catch though - it requires 4 separate switches, which isn't very convenient for an upgrade. The switches are for: light, fan, night light and mode switch. The mode selector dictates one of two modes - full power fan with timer or continuous fan at lower CFM. If you only have 2 switches, use one for the lights and one for the fan. Turn off the mode wire (blue) from the light switch, otherwise the timer will not work. This is not mentioned in the instructions or on the hotline. I can't use a low CFM or night light, but it's certainly better than hooking up more switches around the house. The fan can be very quiet, but if your ducting is restricted, the noise will be higher. My canal narrows to about 3 inches in diameter. Fan noise is ok - much better than the 15 year old fan it replaced.
