I have a daughter who is 3 years and 3 months old, she is pretty good at balance bike and scooter so I thought I would buy her one of these skateboards to try. No pressure on her - we haven't even taken it outside yet, just tried it out on our rug at home - she loves to stand on it and 'ride' it at home (much easier on rugs). This is her first and our first to be honest so we have nothing to compare. However, I expect she'll only get better at it over time, and hopefully we'll form more opinions by then. All I can say is that it seems pretty solid for both young learners and light adults - I wouldn't recommend it for a 200lb person. Even my daughter is easy to lift and maneuver. If your child has a good sense of balance, you can start working with them from the age of 3.
