We spent a few weeks in Rome and Sicily in January 2013 and stayed in 7 different hotels. This adapter plug has worked great at every hotel we have stayed at. It is durable and plugs in well. Wherever we went, there was always a "third" grounding plug attached in the middle. Remember this is NOT a voltage converter. If your electronic devices are not designed for the voltage of 220 volts common in Italy and Uruguay, you will also need a transformer. It turns out that the Mac Air I used this adapter with can handle both the US 120 volt standard and the Italian 220 volt standard, but many devices cannot. Plugging a 120V-only device directly into a 220V outlet can easily cause damage or worse.
