Works well, but: Computers and accessories

This is the ticket for those who need to expand their USB capabilities beyond the 16-inch (or so) limit. When it's in use, throughput is excellent, comparable to a direct connection to your computer's USB port. However, in my opinion, this device lost a star due to a design flaw. When I turn off my computer, the connection between the two ends of the power supply goes idle (this is normal), but when I restart my computer, it remains idle. There is no on/off switch for U-Link, so I found through trial and error that the only way to reconnect was to resort to the Neanderthal method of unplugging and plugging the power cord on the receiving end (which is essentially a toggle, but without the elegant benefit of a switch or on/off button). I spoke to their tech support who was confused by this behavior and after going through a few technical cycles decided to send me another remote power supply thinking that was the culprit. I received the power cord and (as I suspected) the devices behaved exactly the same. In my opinion, this "glitch" is an "undocumented feature" (ridicule) that will surprise buyers. A company can drastically reduce frustration (and returns) simply by mentioning in their materials that this is what is happening. as they have no way to fix it (yet) other than re-engineering the units. I will of course update this review when circumstances warrant. For now, I'm content to unplug and plug in the device every time I restart my computer, as it provides an excellent connection to the much-needed expansion of my USB ports.
