Some newer Subaru vehicles have a smaller bolt/drain plug head, 14mm instead of 17mm. Many owners complain that the bolt head becomes round, especially on the first oil change when the bolt is extra tight from the factory. I took mine off but it wasn't easy and my head got a little round. If you cut the first few millimeters of the nest, the fit may improve slightly. I just put the file on the trash can in the kitchen and swished the socket back and forth for half an hour, rotating about every 10 passes to keep everything straight. The OEMTOOLS 14mm 1/2 drive is perfect for this as the quality is good and the price is reasonable. I tested contact with Subaru's stock 14mm drain plug and now have significantly improved contact.
