Moves to deadbolt but can't lock door

This hasn't worked on any of the doors in my house or my mother's house. As far as I can tell the metal tabs must wrap around the screw in such a way that if there is no gap it will not fit. Fits, but the door won't close because there are no cutouts for metal bits. Too bad I didn't know that before buying, I checked the shape of my bold but didn't realize it should be that special. If you are unsure, save money.
