I bought this starter a year ago. It installed perfectly. However, last week I pulled the boat out for the first time this year and the starter motor has jammed. I even oiled the bendix before pulling the boat out as instructed. I had to dismantle the boat on shore and remove the starter. I have found that the rubber spacer between the pinion and the pinion base compresses too much, allowing the base to move over the helical windings on the armature shaft. A temporary field was "fixed" by lengthening the starter mounting holes with a file, allowing the starter to be moved closer to the flywheel. This allowed the starter to start normally, but sounds kind of stressful. Luckily I have the tools.
