Review on Durgol Universal Descaler for Kitchen and Household Items - 25.4 Ounce Multipurpose Decalcifier by Pamela Beatty

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect fit for my Izzo Alex Duetto III E61 Dual Boiler espresso machine!

I accidentally bought this Durgol version over the lower foam espresso version but it worked just as well. After about 25 minutes of soaking, the water exiting the cooker and steam boilers turned a slightly bluish-green tint. I also had some dandruff. Instructions I used to descale my E61 twin boiler machine (as I couldn't find clear instructions online - do so at your own risk as espresso machine descaling can reveal more serious problems with a poorly maintained machine): 1) Bring the machine to full temperature 2) When the water is connected, shut off the water or maybe switch to water tank mode. 3) Turn off the power. 4) Use the hot water tap to drain the steam boiler. 5) Raise lever E61 and drain any water you can get from the cooker 6) Wait 30-45 minutes for your machine to cool down 7) Unscrew the mushroom cap 8) Remove all loose parts such as drip tray, portafilter etc. and disconnect and reconnect the lines or nozzles. 9) Carefully (and with help if necessary) turn the machine over, drain the remaining water from the system. 10) Take out the water tank and fill it with a mixture of water and Durgol. I mixed 400ml with 2000ml of water. 11) Reattach the mushroom cap. 12) In water tank mode, keep the pump on for about 30 seconds, turn off the power and wait 2-3 minutes. Do this several times until the mix is fully loaded into the system. 13) Allow the machine to warm up to full temperature and drain some water from the steam wand, brew head and hot water inlet. 14) Wait 20-25 minutes. 15) Follow steps 3-9 to purge the solution from the system. 16) Rinse the water tank and put the machine back on the low tide or fill the water tank with new water. 17) In low tide mode you can lift the lever E61 and let the steam flow through the kettle.18) Optional: you can unscrew the nozzles of the steam and hot water boiler to allow limescale particles to escape.19) Turn on the rinse and on bring full temperature 20) switch off the machine 21) blow out the steam boiler through the hot water tap 22) repeat steps 18-21 several times until the solution is gone (I probably did this 4-5 times)

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
