Poor design. The little metal triangle/hook on the end that you push out to keep the tongs closed for storage tends to slip off on its own during use so the tongs want to stay closed. You literally have to use two hands, one to hold the locking mechanism and the other to operate the pliers. Poorly. I didn't want to mess with the return so I used wire cutters to carefully remove the locking mechanism. I still have a pair of pliers that are always open, but at least you can use them now. However, many of these pliers have the same snapping mechanism, but on this particular model, it loosens and doesn't stay in place.
