They are defective even the replacement was damaged

Very disappointed they are terrible. This is my second one as I was pretty sure the first one was just a manufacturing defect. The pliers look good but have a flaw that causes the locking mechanism to slip EVERY use and jam the pliers. Very very disappointed as this is clearly a manufacturer fault in the way it was made and not a one off incident (which is what I was hoping for). I really wanted a good pair of pliers, will look elsewhere. Not to mention that the second replacement came with a…

Poor design - locking mechanism self-engages during use

Poor design. The little metal triangle/hook on the end that you push out to keep the tongs closed for storage tends to slip off on its own during use so the tongs want to stay closed. You literally have to use two hands, one to hold the locking mechanism and the other to operate the pliers. Poorly. I didn't want to mess with the return so I used wire cutters to carefully remove the locking mechanism. I still have a pair of pliers that are always open, but at least you can use them now. However,

Poor Spring Tension

The problem with these tongs is the spring tension. The first one I got had no spring tension at all. MALFUNCTION. I sent them back via Revain and received another pair 3 days later. The spring tension is very weak, to say the least. They don't "open" as quickly as shorter tweezers. I needed these longer tongs so I wouldn't burn myself moving the charcoal and wood around my smoker's firebox. It probably won't even take a year for the spring tension to go away. However, American ingenuity is…

Needs improvement - weak spring and locking mechanism

It would be nice if the tongs had a spring mechanism that was strong enough for them to open by themselves. As new as they are I have to use my second hand to open them as the spring mechanism is too weak to open the longer pliers. Also, the locking tab at the rear end, which is intended to hold the pliers in the closed position, is so loose or saggy that it snaps into place simply by manipulating the pliers. Simply lift the pliers and the latch will engage. So again I had to use my other hand…
