Review on Hankook Tire Winter i*Pike RS2 W429 215/50 R17 95T by Michal Machnicki ᠌

It works, but I don't think I'll be buying it again.

The previous rubber I used, Pirelli Ice Zero, failed after four seasons due to a diagnosis of "non-repairable" damage to one of the wheels, so I made the switch. The only source for the replacement was the kit itself, which makes sense. Since I had to switch to new tires in the dead of winter, I can make an objective comparison to the previous set. I chose to try out a promising new product after reading a few evaluations and tests from "authoritative" media at the time. The feeling of disappointment was immediate. And this despite the fact that I replaced my five-year-old tires with brand-new ones. On Pirelli, I could relax my grip on the wheel with one finger; on Hankook, I couldn't. There is a lack of exchange rate stability that is just short of total. You're sitting there, tense, with a death grip on the wheel. On the ring, while laying the regular turn, a sudden and quick demolition nearly sent him flying into a snowdrift. Tolerable in city driving conditions, but not at all suitable for the track. Where Pirelli permitted 130 km/h, on Hankuk the survival instinct started to kick in at 80 km/h. Anyone planning to pontificate on the appropriateness of winter speed limits, please refrain. I have driven long enough to know when the road conditions, weather, vehicle, tires, and eventually, my own abilities, permit something beyond what is safe. We can manage on ice and packed snow. This porridge isn't even good. Cold asphalt is dangerous. Ice hidden by a light coating of snow is dangerous, Worse yet, asphalt that has dried out is hazardous. I'll sweeten this sour mix with a little honey. Hankook was caught off guard by the snowfall. This time it's on the up and up. This rubber may be the best I've ever used. Two additional vehicles, one of which is an all-wheel-drive model, are also shod in the infamous "rogue" Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic, and both of them are, in my opinion, inferior. Snowfalls heralded the end of winter, and numerous occasions presented themselves to put Hankuk to the test. In sum, tires are fine for a rural area with snowy roads and slow traffic.

Pros
  • - rather calm - surges while setting up price traction in heavy snow depth
Cons
  • -controllability Sensitivity to changes in the track
