Review on GL.iNet GL-AR150 Mini Travel Router: Compact Wi-Fi Converter with High Performance, OpenVPN, and Antenna by Louis Turley

WOW! Incredible travel router! I've bought two other (more expensive) travel routers (RAVPower and HooToo) advertised as media servers and I've had problems (DLNA videos dropping every few minutes) with both. I was hesitant to get this one as I couldn't find anything that said it would work as a media server, but the reviews were great and I liked that it uses OpenWRT and/or DD-WRT. It took a bit of fiddling, but works great for me. At first I had trouble figuring out how to get DLNA to work with OpenWRT, so I tried flashing DD-WRT, which I'm more familiar with. DD-WRT has a known issue, if you try to connect to a wireless network and also create your own wireless network, it will stop your network if it cannot connect to another. This complicates the work of a travel router. So I flashed it back to OpenWRT and started digging around to try and get DLNA working. It turned out to be quite simple. First update the firmware to the latest version. (The pre-installed version contained errors when installing additional software.) Then install "minidlna" via "Advanced Options" -> "System" -> "Software". Then install "luci-app-minidlna". Now "MiniDLNA" is added to the "Services" menu and you can easily configure it there. I need to learn more about OpenWRT. It seems much friendlier than DD-WRT.
