Used successfully with a Razer Stealth laptop to drive a 34" ultra wide monitor and power the laptop. The port got warm while charging, but not alarmingly. I rarely used the USB port, just power and HDMI. When I switched to the HP Specter, I noticed that when I plugged it into the same monitor and turned the laptop on, the connector got even hotter - possibly it was using more power. the plastic case actually melted when I plugged in a USB drive and started transferring 100GB of data - the USB port failed first. So beware if you're using all three ports under load, it might be worth taking a look at one to throw with metal body...when you are loaded to the max.
