Works well with some flaws (which you might not care)

We made this to help us haul stuff while traveling cross country from CT to ID, ID to CA, CA to AZ, AZ in ID etc travel again ID on CT. For a while we had duffel bags and a few bags of dog food. Here's my take: TL:DR - features are great, there are flaws, maybe I'd pick something else, but just out of personal preference. It works great.1. It is big. I was surprised how big it was and how much of it you could have in it. We didn't fill it at all, so many more things could have been placed there. I think that's a positive thing.2. A little awkward to attach to the car. There are plenty of straps (which is good for security, but annoying when you're using the straps yourself). I wore this in CT in early March and it was cold so my hands were freezing fumbling with the straps.3. We had a bunch of extra straps hanging on the bag after we put our stuff in and zipped it up tight. The bag doesn't have comfortable straps so I just wrapped and tied the excess parts of the bag. If you don't do this, the belts will be very noisy as they flap and bounce off your car while driving. So it is imperative that you fasten the straps to a) ensure a smooth ride and b) prevent your bag from being damaged by flapping straps. Having all the extra straps tied is great for travel, but it's cumbersome to undo and rearrange them when you need to access things in your bag on the go. This is best used for storing items you don't need until you've fully completed your journey. We had snow/sleet/frost which caused the bag to freeze and the straps could not be used. I couldn't easily loosen or tighten them during our trip due to the ice on the straps. This wasn't a problem as the bag stayed in place very well and I never worried about it shifting or loosening, but it's something to consider if you're fiddling with the straps and opening/closing the bag in winter weather . Bag when traveling.5. To be honest it seems to be very weather resistant. We've ridden through rain, snow, and sleet, and the flaps that zip up seem to do their job. The bag is very durable and difficult to handle, especially when it's cold outside. Like a super tarp. I was concerned that it might be more vulnerable in the cold (plastic tends to crack/break more when it's cold) but we had no issues. Inside the bag was not wet after bad weather. HOWEVER, I noticed that when we had sealed dog food bags, they appeared "sweaty" when I took them out. Not sure if it was because of the condensation inside the bag as we went through a lot of temperature changes during our trip and the air inside the bag reacts to those changes. Nothing was damaged or anything and the slight dampness I found did NOT look like the weather had gotten into the bag. Just a note, the air inside the bag behaves like regular air when traveling, potentially causing condensation. Overall I think this is a super functional option for $70. I usually have a 'buy once, cry once' philosophy when shopping, but I chose this cheaper roof rack option over one of Thule's trusted roof racks. We sold our house so I didn't have space to store a hard case when not in use so I went with the bag option to store it. It takes a lot of luggage, appears to be perfectly weatherproof, but the harness system is annoying for a number of reasons. If I were to buy again I wouldn't do it. I'd rather have a sturdy, lockable stretcher than this bag. However, this is 100% personal preference and not the fault of the product. To be honest it worked very well and at around 20% of the price of hard top boxes is a great option.
