I bought this player because I had two Samsung Blu-ray players, both of which sometimes stopped playing Blu-ray discs fail in the 20th century. This Sony player plays Blu-ray discs from all manufacturers. However, sometimes the device stops when you insert a disc for playback. In order for it to work, you need to unplug the power cord and plug it back in. This freezing doesn't happen often, but it's enough to be annoying. Sometimes Sony player also freezes while playing DVD and returns to main menu. I've had three Blu-ray players - two Samsung and one Sony - and they all have some kind of glitch. I wonder if the Blu-ray format disappoints. When Blu-ray discs and players work as advertised, they offer improved picture and sound quality. But intermittent performance issues are disappointing. DVDs may not have cinema-quality picture and sound, but they will work on any player—even the $30 DVD players you find at Target and Wal-Mart. Sometimes I consider turning to DVDs for their consistent performance. I just call her when I see her!
