I was worried my oven wouldn't heat up properly after using this thermometer. When I bought this I had a feeling that Rubbermaid is a quality name and the hype would mean heavy duty and accuracy. I remembered having a very old battered oven thermometer in my drawer. I put it and this one in the oven. When pinging the oven it was 350 degrees, the old one showed 350 degrees, this one showed 300 degrees. I tried several times and each time this thermometer was always 25-50 degrees lower. So I contacted Rubbermaid. They were very friendly and efficient and sent me a replacement free of charge. Just received it a few days ago. Try it and guess what, it behaves the same way! 50 degrees lower. I left a really old thermometer in the oven and added this and when the oven reads 350 degrees the old one reads 350. This shows about 300. So these thermometers are of poor quality and cannot be relied upon. I'll just use an old beat up one that's maybe 20 years old but still works.
