Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ MOTOPOWER MP00205A 12V 800mA Automatic Battery Charger Maintainer Trickle Charger Desulfator by Steve French

Compact Budget CAR or other 12V charger/maintainer

Use this to charge and service an H5 battery pack installed in a vintage Toyota with a secondary alarm system. The charger has a red light for charging and a solid green light (flashing green for "mostly charged") for a full charge float mode. The seller sent me a second one because the first never got past green flashing mode. It got very hot, sometimes it didn't even switch mode from flashing red to green even though the battery voltage was over 13.2V. I have another branded charger in the garage, bigger and more powerful, for backup and faster charging (if needed). It also has a "floating" mode. The seller was very good at replacing my first "dubious" unit. If the first works the same as the second, I would give 5 stars to my review. The second works fine. I drive the car once a week and use this to check if the charge is being drained by the parasitic alarm boost. The two-pin SAE adapter that goes to the battery is permanently attached and zip-tieed to the inside corner of the car's grille in my case for quick connection and disconnection of the charger. I like the compact size of this device. The 120V cord from the charger to the outlet can be a foot or two longer; but otherwise it does its job well on the H5 group car battery. I gave him four stars. Unfortunately, after about 6 weeks of writing this review, the second device I was sent went into the same "Error Type" mode as the first. When it started flashing green less than half an hour later, it started flashing green with an intermittent rapid red and then flashing green again without progressing to a solid green float. I also smelled case/electronics silicon from more than 10 feet away. The case was unusually hot, which (as I suspected from the first block) usually indicates a burned internal electronic component. I still give it two stars as it can be reliable enough to handle smaller batteries. I went to my other brand 750mA backup charger which turned green in less than 30 minutes.
