I purchased this tool to use with my Shimano STEPS E8000 system but although made with Shimano's usual quality and craftsmanship the usefulness of this tool falls short of aftermarket offerings. First of all, to use this tool properly, you must use it in combination with an OTHER Shimano Hollowtech II bottom bracket wrench (e.g. TL-FC32) or similar; It is not compatible with the standard tools you may have in your garage. If you don't have a Shimano TL-FC32 or equivalent, guess what? You have to spend more money to get the first one. Aside from the $58 I've already spent on this TL-FC39, I haven't been able to use it. On the other hand, if you choose Park Tool's LRT-2, you get Park Tool's reputation for being a quality tool at half the price of Shimano's TL-FC39. Why is the Park Tool version better? There is a 36mm hex on the back so you can use it with any 36mm socket or adjustable wrench! However, I suggest using Birsman BM19-ABB-SMN54. It's a quality tool, too, and for a few bucks more than the Park Tool (about $37, still less than Shimano), the Birzman tool comes with a standard 1/2-inch drivetrain that bolts directly onto any normal 1/2 automobile can be used "". torque wrench. So in the end I'm giving the TL-FC39 3 stars because it's a well-made, precise tool as you'd expect from Shimano. However, I'm deducting 2 stars because I just gave examples of two competing products that are much more useful to use.
