Didn't get stuck where I had to - Underwater!

I purchased this butyl tape to try and mend a seam in a fillet weld on my perineum that has gaps of 1/16" to 3/8" but is submerged. My plan was to apply this butyl tape underwater (during the actual tape installation) and was hoping that pushing the flexible tape into the "gaps" on the surface would help hold it in place. The water temperature was from mid to 60 degrees. The surface material I was attempting to apply butyl tape to was steel. I suspect there was no real adhesion for three reasons: #1: The underwater surface primarily provides stronger adhesion (although with most butyl tape underwater adhesion is definitely difficult). accessible). In this case it is a Chinese product so who knows what will be mixed with it and not a 100% butyl product (like the Anderson brand). #2: The air temperature was a bit cool. Also, for maximum adhesion to the butyl tape, the water temperature was lower for good adhesion of the butyl tape. below 70. If I find the tape sticking under these conditions I will update this review with that information. For my need to seal the gap in the corner, two pieces of steel (gap dimensions above) appear to be submerged, the width and thickness of this particular tape was adequate, I ordered a 1/8" X 3/4" width. You can double or triple this tape as needed when sealing the gap which varies which is nice to be able to do this. I cannot say that he is able to do this and I can say with certainty that he cannot do so in all cases. I'm hoping to try again in better temperature conditions in the next few weeks and see that it works. In the end it's always nice to have a roll of butyl tape handy, there are many useful uses for it. One thing alarmed me and caught my attention, in the "Questions" "Seller" replied to another person's question that the tape is silicone-butyl tape. But I suspect it was just a Chinese seller trying to tell a potential buyer what they wanted to hear and in fact the Chinese seller really has no idea what these things really are and what they aren't.
