I am new to wood carving and at first thought it was a good balance between cost and performance/variety of carving tools. I've seen many carvers prefer ball-ended hand carving tools to a palm pressure carving technique where the shape of these handles seemed more suited to a pencil grip, so I used them. not very sharp out of the box and I'm still learning how to sharpen them, but the ones I have are pretty sharp and I REALLY enjoy using them. I think others just need practice. I was surprised at how versatile this grip is. They are also very comfortable for long-term use. This set includes a small storage box with a lid that I'm keeping at home for now. Each knife comes with a plastic sheath to protect the tools (and your hands), which I really appreciate. The purpose of most tools is pretty obvious. I've done a few projects with them and I've only lost a little blood. I would recommend them to a beginner woodcarver. you work for me
