Review on ๐Ÿƒ ASICS Men's Gel-Cumulus 23 Running Shoes: Ultimate Performance and Comfort for Men by Shawn Sims

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very comfortable from the start, lightweight but not too soft

I suffer from plantar fasciitis and am always looking for comfortable (but not too soft) shoes with decent arch support (but not too much). A bit like Goldilocks looking for "just rightโ€. I'm a "senior" hiker (late 50's, 180 lbs), about 2 miles a day most days and jog occasionally. My running days are over. I'm hesitating between Brooks (usually the beast) and Asics (one of the gels). I've had them for a little over a week, replacing my last pair of Beasts. In general, I'm very happy with Cumulus. The shoes are very comfortable, not very heavy, the sole flexes well at heel strike and has good flex in the midsole (not too stiff, not too high, just enough). Of course going from a 2 year old pair of shoes to a new one is a nice feeling either way, but they start well, no pinching, no irritation, good cushioning, firm neutral landing. I also checked out the Nimbus (didn't see any extra dough wasted) and the new Beast (man, they look ugly) and settled on the Gel Cumulus. I want wide Asics versions that limit color options, but usually there's something I like. Between my daily walks and normal clothes, I was knocking the snot out of my shoe set when I was 2 years old. The beauty of Asics (and Brooks) over the years is that I've never had an issue with the upper and although the sole has worn quite a bit over 2 years and probably 1000 miles it's still intact. Typically, any cushioning/support starts to fail from the inside out. But it's normal. I don't mind paying $100 for a pair of shoes with this kind of comfort and durability. As long as I buy good shoes, I find that plantar fasciitis is at bay.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
