Review on πŸ”’ Wyers TMC10 Deluxe Coupler/Door Latch Lock: Secure Your Trailer with Ease! by Junee Mauck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best hitch locks

I've been looking for one of these decent quality items for a long time. Quality for my purposes 1) not ridiculously easy to top, 2) not a scrap wrench, but 3) effective weather protection My trailer is a 26 foot toy tractor with a 2-5/16 hitch. The main requirement is to prevent sand from getting into the lock. Another problem is that the snap hole on my hitch lock has a small gap (approx. Since the locking pin is 1/4 inch in size, in many cases it is sufficient just taking the lock and bending back and forth to engage the pin or it's a quick job if the pin can be reached with a hacksaw (not blocked by the lock body like this type of lock) depth for this lock the pin at the end is only 0.15" male. I would make it deeper but it's probably ok for strength as the end cap doesn't rotate when locked. Body parts are molded. Between the halves is under the "Protective rubber bumper against loud rattling" a seam that is rather narrow when closed. If this lock fails and I have to remove it from the trailer, I need verse inside a grinder. Obviously I haven't tried any destructive security/strength tests. My coupler's latch is .81" wide, so I was willing to sharpen the latch a bit to make this lock fit. Surprisingly, with a little more width, this lock fits snugly inside. Closed width: 0.89 inch. BTW the Trimaxlocks website (Trimax is a Wyers brand) states that the TMC10 has a span of 7/8" and is 40% smaller than what I paid for the Revain (probably not with free shipping), and they show both flat and and round key style on the same model (possibly older and newer builds). I'm not keen on the round key style as it adds bulk to the keychain, but oh well. Looks like a good locking mechanism. The keys have steel around the corner of the key ring opening (obviously an issue with some of these competitor locks). The 1/4 turn is convenient compared to the multi-turn threads on the end cap. The rubber lid has a lip so it should stay secure and I don't store it in the sun so hopefully the sand will stay in there for years. I don't have a problem with corrosion in Phoenix, so I'm not voicing my opinion.

Pros
  • Fits hitches up to 3/4" span
Cons
  • Expensive
