Review on Sony FE 85Mm 1 4 Lens by Janelle Nelson

As the products for this lens are well known I will only focus on the smaller products for this lens. This is a portrait lens that should have great bokeh. However, the bokeh is not outstanding. Yes, it's fairly round in the central area and doesn't even have that wobbly bulbous ring common to other Sony lenses like the SEL2470F28GM. But when you get to the edges and corners, the bokeh shrinks (no longer round) and starts to get a little jittery on the inside. There are two lessons to be learned from this: 1) Sony didn't nail the bokeh all the way onto the frame. 2) When photographing, make sure there is nothing blurry around the edges and corners - either sharp or not sharp at all. This way you can be sure that bokeh issues won't spoil your photo. ABOUT OPTICAL STABILIZATION I understand that this is a portrait lens and you can hardly use too slow shutter speeds for portraits. But. This lens is also good for handheld photography in darker conditions and would benefit from the optical stabilization found in the 90mm F2.8 and 70-200mm F2.8 lenses. The 85mm focal length is long enough that the optical stabilization is more effective than on the sensor and complements well on the sensor. ATTACHED IMAGES 1) Demonstration of bokeh circles. See the bokeh ripple in the corners and edges - it's no longer round. 2) Extreme angled bokeh. This is just an oblique cut of the image, which shows well that the bokeh is not round at the corners. The same applies to the outermost edges.
