I ride a 2010 Specialized Epic Comp 29 and recently the factory shock snapped at one of the frame mount points and started leaking oil. I thought it's okay, I drive it hard and in 10 years I'll just replace it. NOT CORRECT! I found out that Specialized is notorious for making their own shocks with weird mounts and custom sizes! Everywhere I went, including the foxes themselves, they told me I was unlucky. Not wanting to spend more than $2,000 for a replacement and an otherwise great bike I started looking for used parts but nothing! So I started researching and found people taking shocks that were very close to the size they needed and modifying them to fit. Considering the price of this shock, I decided it was worth a try even if I ended up not being able to return it! In the photos you can see a small portion of the mounting sleeve on the side of the damper body that I had to cut off to fit this bracket into the frame. The bottom needed my old shock's bushing to fit through the new shock's bushing for it to work. After playing with air pressure, it feels great! Thanks to Covid it will be a while before I can take it for granted but I will update this one when I get the chance.
