I even saw good reviews of this walkie-talkie on YouTube. I used to use mid-range radios and Motorola family radios. They were way better compared to those radios. We used it to communicate between cars during a trip. During the entire trip, the radio had such a short range. You said less than a mile. I've had about 6 car lengths and it's not bad. But then more. It is static and cannot be retrieved. Motorola and Midland had at least 2-3 miles exceeding these radios. All of these radios were used on flat urban terrain and US highways. I would definitely want Tn to buy these radios again and would not recommend these radios at all.
