Review on TERRAMASTER F8-422 10GbE NAS 8-Bay Network Storage Server Apollo Quad-Core CPU With Hardware Encryption (Diskless) by Paul Hyde

Revainrating 5 out of 5

F4-422 TerraMaster Tnas (with optional 10TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD)

I've wanted a NAS for a long time and had no experience with traditional 1U or 2U products or software - I was caught in a black cloud with backup and storage. Until I found this guy. That's great. Some reviews say it's noisy when it is, but it's not as bad as you might think. I'm typing this on a mechanical keyboard and the keystrokes are clearer than the files I'm about to transfer to the NAS. After looking at other solutions like Qnap, Asustor, Synology etc. each of them had little nuances that made me not buy them like dual-core vs. quad-core Terra - or the fact that they don't do it (or not) video encoding or transmission bottlenecks. So keep that in mind when ordering. Setup: Super easy, I hardly had to enter any information, it was 95% automated. The NAS comes with a QR code for online instructions that are published on the web, but are very helpful and easy to use. It either asks you questions or tells you what to do, you click Next. and continue. Literally plug in the device, plug in an internet connection cable (I had to get a 5 port switch because it's upstairs in my room with my desktop), plug in the power supply and you're good to go. I've described the setup process just for convenience, but actually it's step-by-step as well. Usernames, passwords, it formats the drives to install the BTRFS file system. If you want to use it remotely, just provide your server IP address (e.g. you'll see a popup on your desktop when you log in that you can save for reference). Type this into Chrome, FF or whatever - and just log in. It just works. Usage: Install Plex for Media Server and some others like Backup, Media Server, Adobe Acrobat. Installed with a push of a button and very fast - very automated. However, you must set up your public and private file system, otherwise your public file system will be shared and you will not want your private data to be shared in that folder. 3 separate partitions, before installing in the NAS you only need one drive and format everything as one partition (for RAID). But when you add new drives, they will be added automatically and you can use RAID 5 or whatever. I don't have a backup as I use 1 drive. (So far) Very happy with it, software is easy to use, noise levels are ok (I have six Corsair 140 LL fans on my desktop, they are no louder than this one but they may not be at full speed either 20% off the maximum quick reply but also didn't miss or understand what I was talking about, I told them that in the user manual (and online features) for the F4-422 it said "upgrade to 8GB RAM" which is fine, but the manual says 4GB x 4GB configurations, but the manual says it only has 1 slot for RAM, by default there should be 2 slots for a 4x4 configuration, 1 slot is fine for an 8GB stick, but they don't make these or 4x4 , no big deal just more curious. But this stick is compatible with it.Cons: I only wanted them in black.Looks good but all my calculations r the material is black so it a little noticeable warranty ends.
