The magnetic back panel sticks well to my black steel fridge. Note that not all "stainless steel" devices work well with magnets, so test your stainless steel with a different magnet before trying this one. The numbers are large and bright enough to be seen throughout the kitchen. The alarm sound is as loud as you can expect from a small battery powered timer. Timer mode (up/down) and start/stop functions are selected by touching the timer face. The time is selected by turning the outer ring. The timer is about the same size as a Nest brand thermostat.
