Since I only had 4 doors, I didn't want to spend 100.00 for a bit set. I have used them on red oak and they have worked well. As with any tool, most of your results will depend on how you use it. I had to use some of the spacers that came with it to fit snugly on the ends of the rails and I made a few test cuts to get everything installed correctly. I've made at least 3 passes on each cut, about 1/8 inch each time, and they fit very well. As someone else said, be sure to check the tightness of the nuts, mine were loose so I checked after every few cuts. The complaint is that there was a hex wrench in the box which I assume was meant to hold the shaft while you tighten the nuts, but the shafts on mine aren't machined for a hex wrench. I just used a router to hold them as I tightened them up nut so not really a big deal. I don't think they're good enough for snobs, but I'd recommend them for the average weekend carpenter.
