The 6 inch level I got looked like it had been abused. the surface at the bottom of the plane to be measured has been scratched. So I cleaned the dent just enough that the bottom was smooth. strange but still usable. Then, when I started using the level, I noticed that the instrument didn't give the same readings when placed on the same surface and then rotated 180 degrees. So I decided to calibrate it. After chasing my tail for about 30 minutes, I noticed that the bottom was so slightly deformed that the spirit level didn't quite sit flat on my router table, but wobbled slightly. I checked another surface of the earth. The same thing. So I decided to send it back. I hope others have better luck than me.
