Not a Starrett, but still useful

I don't need a precision scale; As such, I never intended to invest in a high-end machine like the Starrett. But I've always wanted it in my toolbox. That seems sufficient for my needs. Casual lovers can benefit from this level.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Operating speed

Very well suited to the spirit levels

This spirit level comes in a very nicely lined wooden case in which to store it. It looks good and as far as I can tell my level is pretty high. I haven't had to set it up yet. Both my wife and I used this level. She didn't care as it was heavy and "too thick" for small spaces so I ordered it. It seems very sensitive, so make sure it's positioned correctly where you're leveling.

Pros
  • Easy to use

Very poor quality control

is delicate, but the ampoule runs very poorly. Vial deformation prevents self-test/calibration. How do you say? Because of the inability to calibrate. I spent half an hour trying to get the approximate range on a decent class B surface plate until I broke the 10k scale. I found that the sides of the base weren't parallel within the allowable tolerance, but then I took out the vial and in fact it was deformed about 20 degrees from the center. You will need to purchase a quality replacement vial…

Pros
  • 2 graduated ampoules allow lateral and horizontal adjustment. Adjustable wrench included
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Decent budget.

First, I don't have the 'master mechanic' equipment needed to check the calibration of this level. So I can't say for sure it's "100% on". I can compare it to several (high quality) levels of carpentry and from the gear I have it's a pretty high level. The packaging and construction show that this is not Starrett quality. But if you look at levels in this price range, you'll probably get it considering it's less than half the cost of a comparable Starrett. I call it "worthy returns." I only…

Broken box, dented and deformed measuring face, not calibrated

The 6 inch level I got looked like it had been abused. the surface at the bottom of the plane to be measured has been scratched. So I cleaned the dent just enough that the bottom was smooth. strange but still usable. Then, when I started using the level, I noticed that the instrument didn't give the same readings when placed on the same surface and then rotated 180 degrees. So I decided to calibrate it. After chasing my tail for about 30 minutes, I noticed that the bottom was so slightly…

Pros
  • Supplied in a wooden storage box for protection when not in use.
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
