First, it's theoretically a "nice to have" item, not a "must have" because as long as you carefully place the ladder opposite the trough and ladder post are clean, the gutter will not be damaged. The main issue with this item is that it is shaped like an inverted "U" with one side of the "U" on the outside of the gutter and the other side of the "U" on the inside of the gutter when the support brackets for your gutters are less than 18 inches on center, the device will not fit in the gutter like it should. I suppose you could cut out part of the inner U-shaped piece in the center of the device, but then you'd be blind guessing where the bracket is. So you're going to be spending a lot of time trying to get this thing to sit properly, time that's better spent on the actual work. I had to take measurements before ordering but everything goes back. Better yet, they had to create a better product or at least solve this very real problem in the world.
