Review on πŸ“Ί Hisense 65-Inch H9 Quantum Series 4K ULED Smart TV with Android and Hands-Free Voice Control (65H9G, 2020 Model) by Youssef Coolidge

Great 4K/HDR picture. And that's it.

Update August 23, 2020: Red halos appear when playing HDR content. I would NOT recommend this kit unless/until this issue is resolved. I will update this review if/when that happens. Update September 26, 2020: There seems to be a fix for the red halo now, but that will require a technician to come out and replace the part. So it's difficult to recommend someone to buy it and then have to deal with Hisense to actually fix this. Addendum: 06/11/20. Replacing the part does not solve the problem. Updated 09/27/20. I've now noticed an unbearable lag when attempting to watch Netflix through the internal app. Until recently, there were no such problems with the TV. For example, I press the settings button or volume buttons while watching a Netflix movie and it can take up to 4 seconds (yes, FOUR seconds) for the TV to respond. Several times it lagged behind and Netflix just shut down for me. I literally hit the settings button and get kicked out of Netflix. Completely unacceptable. Edit: I turned off and unplugged the device and at least that solved the problem for now. I paid $900 for a 65-inch H9G and have been very happy with my purchase so far. I'll just list some pros and cons, but the bottom line is that if you can find this set, I highly recommend it. Hisense could very well be the next TCL. Great TVs at great prices. If anything changes I will update my review. - Hisense claims it's a 120Hz panel and it can receive but not display. This is a highly misleading form of advertising in my opinion. There are other kits like the similarly priced TCL 6 series or the similarly priced Sony 900H that are actually 120Hz. - Upscaling of low bitrate/quality content is low. Not terrible either. It's just okay. - No HDMI 2.1/VRR (I understand it's not required, but people still think it's a downside) - The remote control doesn't work. Looks very high quality. It's just black plastic. A minor gripe, actually, but I'd like to see something better. - There are 4 yellow lights at the bottom of the screen that don't turn off when the TV is on. I assume it's because I disabled my far field voice/mic, but it's stupid that I don't currently know how else to disable these lights. Hopefully this will be fixed with another update. Good: - Fantastic picture with high quality content (4K), amazing colors. For the price it couldn't be better. The Sony 950H is next next and is over $500 more expensive than this set. - Pretty good and loud sound for a TV - Good reflection treatment (and it can be ridiculously bright) - Remote control (besides looking cheap) is perfect. Excellent voice search. He understands very well what you are saying. So for now I just want to share a few reasons why I still really like this set (other than the amazing art). The remote control has dedicated shortcut keys for Netflix, Youtube, Prime Video and Google Play. I use Youtube and Netflix every day. After pressing a special button on the remote control, it only takes a few seconds to load these applications. Another thing I really like is that I can search Youtube with the voice remote. No more typing in my searches! Edit 11/06/20: With the latest firmware update, the TV now has ALLM for game mode. It automatically detects the content/when you start the game and automatically puts the TV into game mode. When you exit the game, it will revert to your normal picture mode. Another thing I like is that both Hisense and PS4 support CEC. I don't know what that means, but it means I can enable this option both on my TV and in my PS4's settings. And while I'm doing this I can hold down the PS4 button on my PS4 controller and it will turn on both the TV and the PS4 and go straight to the PS4 menu by pressing that button. Perfect as I have a young child who isn't great at navigating menus but is smart enough to press a specific button when they want to play on PS4!

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Requires power outlet
