I bought this spoked wheel for my Makita 9741 sander. It's a quick way to open up the texture or age the look of wood. It works great on large flat areas, but not so well on small indentations (to get into tight spaces I use a similar but much smaller wire wheel in a 1/4" straight grinder). It's almost useless on tightly grained woods like mahogany or poplar, but gives a beautifully aged and weathered look to more open pore woods like oak or ash.I've also found that I can make a cheap pine or cedar look like it's spent 50 years in the desert sun in minutes Experiment with different types of wood until you find the result you like The abrasive nylon brush that comes with the sander can be useful for aging a painted surface, but not for aging bare wood.
