Review on Black Thule Pack and Pedal Tour Rack by Mike Ken

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works well, but it's still not worth the price.

Looks, seems to hold up, easy to install but not worth the price for a number of reasons. I can only guess that the manufacturer figured that few people would really want this type of touring stand, so they just asked the intern to draw something and they micromanaged through the design phase to the end. They then increased the price to make the rack look like a quality product to make up for the poor design. At the same time, the design is light, but the materials are really cheap. The composite trunk platform just looks bad, like something like a kid's bike or something. The positioning levers that come with the touring stand are also chrome plated (why?) and very thin cheap steel. The radially curved structural bars that make up the side and structural portions of the rack and the nylon wedge-band locking mechanisms are the only components that appear designed with the end user in mind. The combination of chrome, steel gray and matte black appears to have been designed to look as badass as possible while still maintaining the brand identity. I can't think of a solid color frame that would look good with a ribbon attached. It generally works, but only because there really aren't any other similar racks on the market.

Pros
  • Handy lantern/reflector mounting point so you can be seen
Cons
  • Pretty good
