I can only guess that the manufacturer figured that few people would really want this type of touring stand, so they just asked the intern to draw something and they micromanaged through the design phase to the end. In general, this product works well. Know it's a good problem solver and versatile design. Why only 3 stars? Because the installation is not easy and the instructions do not emphasize the most important points. They focus too much on the overall setup and not enough on the key part of threading and attaching the straps.
