Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ NETGEAR Gigabit Smart Router on Amazon by Alex Montgomery

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I expected the performance and range to be better than Comcast devices, and more importantly, I wanted that.

I bought this router to replace a rented modem/router I rented through Comcast . I expected better performance and range than Comcast's devices, and most importantly, I wanted to stop paying the monthly rent. The router was relatively easy to set up with a Netgear cable modem (CM500) after I fixed some issues with Comcast. equipment (initially they blocked the channels with a noise filter in the line). However, both performance and range proved to be identical to the original rental gear I used, or maybe even worse. I have a 4200 square foot house and the router is installed on the north side of the house on the second floor. I get over 120 Mbps when in the same room as the router. Signal strength and performance is decent on the second floor, but it drops off significantly as I get to the first floor and is virtually non-existent as I get to the 1st floor on the south side of the house. I expected to be able to stream online content to my downstairs TV, but that's not possible on Roku or Smart TV. Today I use a powerline adapter and a second router downstairs, but even that has mediocre download speeds. Latency and buffering issues. I know Smart TVs are not known for having very good network cards, but I can't get a signal to this router from a common room at home with a laptop or phone/tablet. The router is running on the latest firmware and I've been playing around with the position of the antenna as well.
