Review on Enhance Steering on Your John Deere Gator: SuperATV EZ-STEER Power Steering Kit - Multiple Models (2005+) by Ben Barrington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Difficult to install

Firstly this kit works great once installed - I bought a used 2012 825i Gator without power steering and this is an inexpensive way to add this feature. Installation. well, maybe I should start disassembling: 1) remove the steering wheel - off! pm I googled the process and found threads of people building a flat steel triangle for a puller to snag on. This is very important for this part of the process, especially on an 8 year old car. Even then, I still had to tap the puller to dislodge the steering wheel, and it bounces under pressure. 2) Apparently I'm bad at geometry because it took some trial and error to pull out the original steering shaft. . When it came out, it was like solving a jigsaw puzzle - voila! Installation: 1) First, the instructions are not very good. Pictures are sometimes taken too close to the car to understand what is happening. It just slowed the process down a bit. 2) Align everything and tighten all fasteners best with an octopus. Extra hands might help, but it's a pretty cramped space to work in, so you'll need to be friendly with your assistant. A U-hinge that basically fits right into the hole in the firewall to align it so it doesn't rub. I'm not proud of this, but I had to shave less than a 1/4" notch from one side of the hole. I also had to cut the gasket that fits in the hole. Good: 1) The parts are really well made and feel like an OEM 2) The picture of all the parts as they connect is helpful 3) The connection instructions are well explained and the fittings on the control module are intuitive 4) in the end , PS AMAZING! worth the money could be better: 1) Power connector. This is a hit to any aftermarket builder. Every UTV owner adds accessories and all accessories connect to the same power connector - be it constant current or key current. WOULD BE HANDY if the wiring harness had an extra "pigtail", to easily add the next accessory. In my case I had to adjust the power wiring with a wrench for the power steering kit and my winch. After all I'm pretty good at mechanics and I knew what I was getting myself into I'm getting in and I knew the setup wasn't going to be easy. Always pass this rating and reviews on to the next person. Overall, I am VERY satisfied with the product and can only recommend it.
