Although it's not obvious from the seller's photos, the manufacturer has included an elastic band inside the sandal under the Velcro straps at the top. I have high arches and need very loose shoes so as not to restrict blood flow to my toes due to neuropathy. When I put them on, I suspected that the elastic would make them so tight that it cut off blood flow. Even without the upper Velcro straps, the sandals feel too tight. And it's probably true that if I wore them when I wasn't cycling, circulation would be restricted. But once the bike pedals are engaged and pulled and depressed, the band offers very little support. I gave them 4 stars because I'm sure I would have liked them better without the elastic. Perhaps a few internal fabric flaps could have been provided instead to protect the top of the foot from rubbing against the Velcro straps.
