Prefer The Ragster II

There's nothing wrong with that. I just like my ragsters more, which are more "sandals". The Exustar has three LONG straps with elastic fabric between them versus two straps with no fabric. The toe box is not as stiff and protective as the Ragster. The insole/sole doesn't have the small bumps that the Nashbar has and is even a bit softer and more comfortable. The clip is a bit recessed in the area, so I find it harder to engage the SDP but a little easier to walk. (By the way, I like to wearโ€ฆ

Men's stretch lining

Although it's not obvious from the seller's photos, the manufacturer has included an elastic band inside the sandal under the Velcro straps at the top. I have high arches and need very loose shoes so as not to restrict blood flow to my toes due to neuropathy. When I put them on, I suspected that the elastic would make them so tight that it cut off blood flow. Even without the upper Velcro straps, the sandals feel too tight. And it's probably true that if I wore them when I wasn't cyclingโ€ฆ

  • That's great

  • Lots of stuff

To each his own.: Men

These aren't actually sandals, but half-sandals/shoes. The top of the "sandal" under the straps is a piece of elastic that stretches across the top and presumably replaces the sock for those who wish to wear sandals without socks. It limits. The sizing is quite odd and in-between sizes so you really can't find the exact size you need, especially when it's important for comfort. I have bumps that hurt after about 20 miles and the tightness of these sandals/shoes combined with the stretchyโ€ฆ

  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

I use this product with Crank Brothers Beater Style pedals. I live in Florida so it's always hot here. I have a small heel, but this product is adjustable so it fits perfectly! The base of the shoe is very stiff so it distributes the load well when cycling, but when walking it's far more comfortable than any cycling shoe I've ever used. There is no lump feeling on the boot. It's much better than my Shimano shoes for both riding and walking. However, its main purpose is cycling, not walking, Iโ€ฆ

Ideal for my wide feet and sturdy shoes.

I'm having problems with the width. Wearing shoes that were too tight or simply stretched out when running caused me constant pain for years. In recent years I have started buying shoes that are one size larger and the widest I can find which has greatly reduced the pain in my feet. The velcro straps on these sandals allow me to adjust them a bit. I usually wear 11.5-12. I bought 12.5-13.5 and they fit really well. With winter coming I use them mainly for indoor cycling and they seem greatโ€ฆ

Best SPD Bike Sandboxes

I've tried most of them including Lake, Keen and Shimano and I like the Exustar the best. Very well made, lots of ventilation, very comfortable and at a great price of $80. Exustar also makes Nashbar's Ragster II sandals, but they don't have a third Velcro strap and I do notice a difference, especially when opening, as the extra strap creates less space between my foot and the sandal. Keen Commuter III is definitely better than its previous models but they are expensive and the narrow velcroโ€ฆ

Not suitable for flat pedals, regardless of the product description.

I ride flat pedals and have risked trying them, but they don't do the most basic job of $100 bike shoes: keeping my foot on the pedals. Even when using forked pedals like Shimano and Crank Bros, my feet slipped like I was wearing classic leather-soled shoes. The sole is not rubbery enough for the pedal pins to catch on. The soles are really just some kind of slippery hard plastic that is somehow completely unsuitable for shoes with flat pedals. Any plain sneakers or sneakers will hold the footโ€ฆ

  • Lots of positive vibes

  • No performance
