Review on ๐Ÿšฝ Bemis Independence R85300ARM 000 Elevated Toilet Seat by Dustin Woodrow

Ideal for those who only use one hand!

My 93 year old mother recently broke her wrist which is making it difficult to go to the toilet. I needed to find an elevated seat that was not only strong and secure (which turned out to be no easy task), but also had handrails suitable for those who only use one hand. Almost every seating device on the market - from pot chairs to bolt-on chairs to clip-on seats - has handrails that require more or less equal pressure on both handles when lifting, as uneven pressure will cause the product to fail and/or fall. After spending many hours searching for products and reviews, I wanted to buy a new toilet instead of buying a product that would be dangerous for it. But the option of a new toilet also caused her problems. So I was very happy to finally be on the Bemis seat. The videos provided by Bemis for testing (350lb pressure per arm) gave me some hope/confidence that my 90lb mom could safely carry it. Seeing the built-in seat and testing my arm strength made me feel even better. However, I don't trust any device in my mother's life, so I warned her not to put her full weight on it as much as possible and only use it for light support/stabilization, which is all she can do. . needs at the moment. If there is another product on the market that offers this level of strength and stability for both a two-armed and one-armed person, I have not found it. If there are any problems or malfunctions with this seat I will report it. For those concerned about size, our toilet (with the original seat removed) measures 16-1/2 inches from the center of the screws to the front edge of the bowl. Its width is 14-1/4 inches (outside). The height is 15 inches, so the addition of the Bemis seat increased it to 18 inches. I was concerned that my petite 5ft mom might not be tall enough, but that's spot on. Finally, another benefit of this seat is that you don't have to mount both support arms when you don't need them. We only needed one, and in her tiny bathroom, the second hand would be very full.
