I did a lot (some would say crazy) research and thought before buying and I'm very happy with the results - and glad it got a little There is a detour. I first ordered the enamelled version in caribbean blue. i loved this colour. It arrived and I realized I had handled it carefully for fear of breaking it. When I removed the protective cardboard from the end of the spout, I found that there was already a chip there. I decided I would choose stainless steel for the second round. I didn't want to worry about what I use every day. I didn't want to spend the extra $20 which crossed the "too expensive" line for me, but as I thought about it I realized the stainless steel version would probably last a lot longer. It was hard to turn down the Caribbean blue, but I have to say I think the stainless steel is pretty nice. It reflects the colors in my kitchen. Looks great on my stove. It has the classic look I was hoping for. I like the size of the kettle - it leaves more room on my full rack oven and is big enough for my needs, which is mostly my daily cup of tea, but I make tea or coffee occasionally. for one or two more people. I've found that if I'm brewing enough for myself, I don't need to use my glove, but if I'm brewing for more people, I do. The whistle is excellent. It starts quietly and gets louder. Yes, the water will splash if I forget to shake it up a bit first, but my previous kettle (Revere) did the same thing. The lid is pretty tight. I like that when I take the lid off I can easily see and reach inside. The water heats up fast enough for me. I figured out how much to put in a cup, so that helps. I'm deducting a star for two tricky things - at a price like this teapot, my standards are high. The instructions show a picture of the inside so you know how high you can fill the kettle. It doesn't match the actual inside of the kettle. I had to measure and fill up with some water to see if my guess was correct (it was correct - you can cover the smaller holes at the bottom but not the larger ones). Another picky thing was that there was a sticker on the bottom that was very difficult to peel off. It's not so pleasant to receive a nice new kettle with a brushed stainless steel base and immediately scratch something. Again - these two things are picky. I've had the kettle for over a month now and I love it! UPDATE: I've had this kettle for over 3.5 years now. I use it every day, sometimes several times. i still like it I think it still looks great on my stovetop. The whistle still works perfectly. I've found that if I heat enough water to slowly pour a cup, it doesn't splatter. When I heat enough water for a liter jar the handle gets hot so I have to use a glove but it doesn't splatter.
